The Provincial Government is partnering with the Municipal Assessment Agency and Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador to undertake a review of the Assessment Act, 2006. It is the first significant review of the legislation in the past 10 years.

The Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers is an inter-regional, bi-national, trans-border organization established in 1973 in recognition of the special bond that exists between the six New England states and the five Eastern Canadian provinces. Its members are the governors and the premiers of those states and provinces. The meetings are held alternately in New England and Eastern Canada. The last meeting was held in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador in 2015.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Games is the largest multi-sport event for youth in the province, bringing together athletes from 11 to 18 years of age from all regions.

August 14, 2016, marks the 75th Anniversary of the Atlantic Charter, a joint-declaration that detailed the goals and aims of the Allied powers concerning the First World War and the post-war world. The Atlantic Charter was released by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill after a four-day meeting in Newfoundland in 1941. In recognition of this historical event, the Provincial Government provided Atlantic Charter Foundation Inc. $11,232 to assist with the planning of anniversary celebrations currently ongoing in St. John's and Ship Harbour, August 11-14.
