Quebec has not yet adopted the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) that replaces Provincial Sales Tax (PST) in some other Canadian provinces or QST in Quebec. When adopted, HST combines GST and PST in one and unique tax.

Changes in Recent Quebec Sales Tax History

January 1, 2013:
The province of Quebec has changed the way of calculating its sales tax. Before 2013, the QST tax was calculated on the selling price plus GST. It is now calculated on the selling price only (not including GST). The Quebec Sales Tax increases to 9.975% of the selling price to maintain the same level of taxation.

January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012:
The QST increase from 8.5% to 9.5% (calculated on selling price plus 5% GST).

January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011:
The QST increase from 7.5% to 8.5% (calculated on selling price plus 5% GST).

January 1, 1998 to December 31, 2010:
The QST increase from 6.5% to 7.5% (calculated on selling price plus 5-7% GST).

May 13, 1994 to December 31, 1997:
The QST increase from 4-8% to 6.5% (calculated on selling price plus 7% GST).
