The governments of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada recognize the importance of spurring economic development and increasing potential business interest in order to ensure the sustainability and viability of communities. Together, the Provincial and Federal Governments are investing more than $339,000 in two projects in the Town of Channel-Port aux Basques.

Investments in Affordable Housing for Seniors

The governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador are investing more than $6.1 million to support the construction of affordable housing for seniors. The funding is part of the $48.9 million under Investments in Affordable Housing announced in October 2016. Conditional approvals have been provided to six non-profit groups to develop projects.

Minister Coady Supports Public Utilities Board’s Approval of Net Metering Program

The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, is pleased with the news that the Public Utilities Board has approved a net metering program for Newfoundland and Labrador. Net metering allows electricity customers to generate power from small scale renewable sources for their own use and supply surplus power to their electricity utility when available.
