Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

Due to inclement weather, today’s funding announcement in Holyrood involving the Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, and Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament for Avalon, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and Betty Parsley, MHA for Harbour Main, will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Holyrood Town Hall, 34 Salmonier Line.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, will join Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament for Avalon, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, in Holyrood tomorrow (Wednesday, May 24) for a funding announcement related to the Holyrood Marina.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

The governments of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada recognize the importance of spurring economic development and increasing potential business interest in order to ensure the sustainability and viability of communities. Together, the Provincial and Federal Governments are investing more than $339,000 in two projects in the Town of Channel-Port aux Basques.

Education and Early Childhood Development

The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will visit several schools on the Burin Peninsula tomorrow (Wednesday, May 24). The minister will be joined by Carol Anne Haley, MHA for Burin - Grand Bank.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, announced the provincial contribution for Growing Forward 2 for 2017-18 will be $3.9 million. The minister made the announcement today while visiting Hillside Holsteins Farm Ltd. in Harcourt.

Transportation and Works

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Transportation and Works, today recognized May 21-27 as National Public Works Week. This year’s theme is Public Works Connects Us.

Children, Seniors and Social Development

The governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador are investing more than $6.1 million to support the construction of affordable housing for seniors. The funding is part of the $48.9 million under Investments in Affordable Housing announced in October 2016. Conditional approvals have been provided to six non-profit groups to develop projects.

Service NL

The Honourable Perry Trimper, Minister of Service NL, and Graham Letto, MHA for Labrador West, will join representatives from Horizon Occupational Health Solutions for the release of the Labrador West Medical Audit report on Wednesday, May 24.

Municipal Affairs and Environment

Now that the emergency response to the flooding at Mud Lake is moving into the recovery phase, residents of Mud Lake are advised that applications for the Newfoundland and Labrador Disaster Financial Assistance Program (NL-DFAP) are now being accepted.

Children, Seniors and Social Development

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation and MHA for St. Barbe-L’Anse aux Meadows, on behalf of the Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister Responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation, will announce funding for a number of seniors non-profit projects on Monday, May 22. The event is taking place at the Town of St. Anthony Council Chambers, 87-95 West Street at 10:00 a.m.

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and MHA for Burgeo - La Poile, on behalf of the Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, will join Gudie Hutchings, Member of Parliament for Long Range Mountains, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA, to announce funding initiatives in Channel-Port aux Basques on Tuesday, May 23. The event takes place at the Bruce II Sports Centre, Channel-Port aux Basques, beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Natural Resources

The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, is pleased with the news that the Public Utilities Board has approved a net metering program for Newfoundland and Labrador. Net metering allows electricity customers to generate power from small scale renewable sources for their own use and supply surplus power to their electricity utility when available.

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, will address the Rotary Club of Gander on Tuesday, May 23.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, will provide an overview of the Growing Forward 2 Agreement on Tuesday, May 23, 11:00 a.m. at Hillside Holsteins Farm Ltd., 921 Smith Sound Rd., Harcourt. Minister Crocker will be joined by Neil King, MHA for Bonavista.

Justice and Public Safety

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, today is congratulating the recipients of the 2017 Police and Peace Officer of the Year Awards.

The Robinsons Pasture Forest Access Road will close to vehicle traffic today (Friday, May 19). The road is located five kilometres east of Robinsons River on the Trans-Canada Highway in District 14.
