The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, will speak at the opening of the Royal Canadian Airforce Association’s First World War Aviation exhibition tomorrow (Wednesday, June 22). The event will take place at St. John’s International Airport, 100 World Parkway, St. John's, at 2:00 p.m.

Advanced Education and Skills

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills, will provide details of approved businesses and non-profit organizations for the Student Summer Employment Programs – Post-Secondary tomorrow (Wednesday, June 22) at 10:30 a.m. at the Employment Centre Office, 285 Duckworth Street, St. John’s.

Seniors, Wellness and Social Development

The Gathering Place in St. John's is receiving $60,000, provided through Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation's (NLHC) Supportive Living Program (SLP), to fund a full-time Volunteer Coordinator position. The Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh made the announcement today.

Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development

The provincial film industry is positioning itself for future success with the support of $25,000 from the Provincial Government. Funding was provided to the 2016 Scene and Heard Film Industry Conference, which concluded this past weekend in St. John’s. Scene and Heard was hosted by St. John’s International Women’s Film and Video Festival Inc. with funding provided through the Business Development Support Program.

Justice and Public Safety

The Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Commission recognizes National Aboriginal Day, which is celebrated on June 21. First established in 1996, this year’s National Aboriginal Day is celebrating 20 years of strong and vibrant cultures and traditions of Canada’s First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will open the Newfoundland and Labrador Oil and Gas Industries Association's (Noia) 2016 oil and gas conference tomorrow (Tuesday, June 21). Premier Ball will speak at approximately 8:00 a.m.

Executive Council

Newfoundland and Labrador will be hosting the 2016 Ministerial Conference on the Canadian Francophonie (MCCF), June 22-23, in St. John's. The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, and the Honourable Perry Trimper, Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs, will be co-chairing the meeting. The slogan of the 2016 Conference is The Wind in Our Sails.

Seniors, Wellness and Social Development

The Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development, will announce Supportive Living Funding for the Gathering Place tomorrow (Tuesday, June 21). The minister will be joined by Sister Elizabeth Davis, Co-Chair, Gathering Place.

Child, Youth and Family Services

The Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services, will address the Waypoints Annual General Meeting tomorrow (Tuesday, June 21). The event is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Capital Hotel in St. John's.

The event will take place at Clovelly Golf Course, 100 Golf Course Rd, St. John's, at 6:00 p.m.

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will attend meetings of the Canadian Council of Fisheries and Aquaculture Ministers (CCFAM) June 21-22 at the Algonquin Hotel, Saint Andrews, New Brunswick.

Advanced Education and Skills

The first round of Job Creation Partnerships has been announced for 2016-17 by the Provincial Government with $9.3 million in funding approved for 219 projects to employ over 1,000 individuals. The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills, provided details of approvals at an event in Corner Brook this morning.

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, will plant a flower in the Beaumont Hamel Memorial Garden – Garden of Tears tonight (Monday, June 20). The ceremony is being held by the Opera on the Avalon and will take place on the lawn of the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Finance

The Honourable Cathy Bennett, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, will be attending a meeting of federal, provincial and territorial Finance Ministers June 19-20 in Vancouver.

Broadband services in northern Labrador will be expanded thanks in part to investments by the Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. The announcement was made today by the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Yvonne Jones, Member of Parliament for Labrador, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), and on behalf of the Honourable Carolyn Bennett, Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs.

Bernard Davis, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health and Community, will speak at the Scene and Heard Industry Film conference producers’ brunch on Sunday, June 19. The event will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Rocket Bakery, 272 Water St., St. John’s.
