Enhancements to the 10-year child care strategy, Caring For Our Future, will further address and strengthen the quality, sufficiency and affordability of the child care system in this province. The improvements announced today include changes to the Operating Grant Program, equipment grant funding and the Early Learning and Child Care Supplement for Early Childhood Educators (ECE) in regulated Family Child Care homes.

Signage depicting the new name of the CBS Bypass - Peacekeepers Way - was unveiled today at an event held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Conception Bay South. The name was chosen in partnership with the Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association, Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter.

The Provincial Government is developing a 10-year strategy to end homelessness in Newfoundland and Labrador, with several initiatives already underway. Work on the strategy is being informed by recommendations contained in an independent consultant's report entitled A Roadmap for Ending Homelessness in Newfoundland and Labrador, prepared by Orgcode Consulting Inc., and released earlier this year.

Inmates at Bishops Falls Correctional Centre Participate in Eyeglass Recycling Program

Inmates and Correctional Officers at the Bishops Falls Correctional Facility (BFCC) have partnered with the Lions Clubs of Newfoundland and Labrador to establish a satellite eyeglass recycling depot at the facility. This initiative will result in refurbished eyeglasses being used for overseas vision mission work.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association (NLVA) will be hosting the Beresford Ltd. VolleyFest 2015 in St. John's and vicinity from Friday, October 30 to Saturday, October 31. The tournament will take place on 31 courts in St. John's and vicinity with the primary venues in the NL Sports Centre for junior high divisions and Memorial University's Field House for senior high divisions. Both venues house between five and six courts.

Evaluation of the Enhanced Care in Personal Care Homes Pilot Project Supports Expansion of Program

The Provincial Government has received the evaluation results of the Enhanced Care in Personal Care Homes Pilot Project and is working with the personal home sector and the regional health authorities to explore options to expand the program. The pilot project allows personal care homes to provide care to residents who require a higher level of care than is normally provided in a personal care home.
