The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, will participate in the Carbonear Volunteer Fire Department’s 175th anniversary celebration dinner tomorrow (Saturday, July 16).

The Stephenville Theatre Festival, which is the province’s longest running professional theatre festival, is receiving $40,000 from the Provincial Government. The curtain will rise tonight on the 2016 festival and will run until August 14.

Environment and Conservation

Two water and sewer construction projects in the Town of Conception Bay South are impacting travel along the Newfoundland and Labrador T'Railway Provincial Park. While construction is ongoing, the public is asked to follow all safety signage and use caution when travelling in these areas.

Fisheries and Aquaculture

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will hold a media availability to discuss the federal Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard’s decision on the Total Allowable Catch for the northern shrimp fishery.

Environment and Conservation

The Honourable Perry Trimper, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

Transportation and Works

The Provincial Government manages a large Information Communication Technology (ICT) network, with offices and service centres located throughout the province. To ensure that operations are efficient and effective, a contract to review ICT services and to develop a procurement strategy for these services in the future has been awarded to Deloitte Inc. The contract follows a Request for Proposals and is valued at $115,000.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will address the Deer Lake Chamber of Commerce luncheon tomorrow (Friday, July 15). The event is taking place at 12:00 p.m. at the Deer Lake Motel, 15 TCH, Deer Lake.

Stage West Theatre Festival in Corner Brook has received a financial investment of over $14,000 from the Provincial Government to support marketing efforts and as well as its production of A Soldier’s Heart. The festival opened on July 1 with the premiere of A Soldier’s Heart, a tribute to the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme and the young men who served.

Education and Early Childhood Development

The Provincial Government is committed to building a K-12 education system which better engages students in learning and improves student outcomes. The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today began the process to select the Premier’s Task Force on Improving Educational Outcomes with a mandate to examine the current system and recommend improvements.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will join Scott Simms, Member of Parliament for Coast of Bays - Central - Notre Dame tomorrow (Thursday, July 14) to speak to recent cost-shared infrastructure investments announced under the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund for the central Newfoundland area.

Fisheries and Aquaculture
Municipal Affairs

Following a request made by the Town of Cottlesville on behalf of plant workers in the area, former employees of the Breakwater Fisheries Ltd. plant in Cottlesville have been deemed eligible for workforce adjustment measures by the Cabinet Committee on Fisheries Issues. The plant has not operated since December 2014.

Justice and Public Safety

The Support Enforcement Program (SEP) has resumed sending support payments via Canada Post. SEP will continue to monitor ongoing negotiations at Canada Post and will update support clients as the need arises.

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, today announced $80,000 in operational funding has been provided to the Writers' Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador (WANL) through the Provincial Government's Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP).

Environment and Conservation

The Exploits River Trestle Bridge in the Newfoundland and Labrador T'Railway Provincial Park, in the Town of Bishop's Falls, will be closed to all pedestrian and vehicle traffic from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 14. This closure is necessary to facilitate the fireworks display that will be a part of Bishop's Falls River Fest 2016, which was originally scheduled for Monday, July 11.

The Provincial Government is once again joining community groups in celebrating Pride Week 2016 (July 11-17) in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development, and Bernard Davis, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health and Community Services, joined members of St. John’s Pride and other community representatives at a flag-raising ceremony at the Confederation Building this afternoon as part of the launch of Pride Week throughout the province.

The Provincial Government remains committed to providing leading edge telecommunications services and infrastructure to the residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. An investment of over $1.3 million has been made to provide rural broadband access for five communities on the Northern Peninsula. The announcement was made today by the Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, and Gudie Hutchings, MP for Long Range Mountains, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
