Children, Seniors and Social Development

Derek Bennett, Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, will be in Grand Falls-Windsor on Monday, February 20, to attend an event to raise awareness about the Meals on Wheels pilot project and highlight community partnerships.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today confirmed the Provincial Government’s commitment to construct a new acute care regional hospital in Corner Brook.

Environment and Climate Change

Through the cooperative efforts of the Departments of Environment and Climate Change, and Transportation and Works, and the Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Federation (NLSF), interim repairs to the T'Railway Provincial Park have now been completed. The last section of T'Railway, in the vicinity of Glenwood to Gander, is now open. Assessments, interim repairs and grooming were undertaken by NLSF as short-term measures in order to allow snowmobiling enthusiasts access to the T'Railway for the remainder of the winter 2017 season.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is joining all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians today to mark the 35th anniversary of the Ocean Ranger’s sinking, which resulted in the loss of 84 lives.

The Honourable Cathy Bennett, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, today announced that the approximately $70 million in core funding the Provincial Government currently provides to community groups will be maintained for the next fiscal year.

Throughout this week, schools in the province are participating in Dart Outdoors events. Organized by School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador, Dart Outdoors Day is an outdoor activity day that allows students to enjoy the benefits of physical activity in winter.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, joined Yvonne Jones, Member of Parliament for Labrador, in announcing funding from the Federal Government under the First Nations Child and Family Services Program. Funding of $965,000 will be used to support prevention-based programming in the two Innu communities for which the province delivers child protection services – Sheshatshiu and Natuashish.
