A new community sustainability partnership was announced through Budget 2015 that will provide communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador with increased revenues and capacity supports. One of the priorities of the community sustainability partnership is to continue to ensure clean and safe drinking water for the residents of the province. Today, a contract to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that will assist in reducing Boil Water Advisories (BWAs) in Newfoundland and Labrador was awarded to Big East Engineering Inc.

Revitalizing the Port of St. Anthony with $80,000 Investment

The Provincial Government is providing $80,000 in funding to the St. Anthony Port Authority to support future infrastructure enhancements. The investment will allow the port authority to complete a feasibility study focused on improving harbour access and infrastructure in order to maximize potential growth opportunities for the port. Funding is being provided through the Regional Development Fund and builds on previous funding of approximately $3 million for the authority.
Consultations Will Examine the Adoption of an Energy Code for Large Buildings

Minister Participates in Sod-Turning Ceremony for New RCMP Detachment

The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Justice and Public Safety, today attended a sod-turning ceremony in Twillingate to officially start the process of constructing a new Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment for the region. Minister King was joined at the event by the Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Natural Resources and MHA for The Isles of Notre Dame, and Andrew Boland, Chief Superintendent of Criminal Operations with the RCMP.
$120,000 Investment Supports Sustainable Waste Management

The Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB) is providing over $120,000 through the Solid Waste Management Innovation Fund and the Community Waste Diversion Fund to support 15 projects designed to help achieve sustainable waste management in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation and Minister Responsible for the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board, made the announcement today at the Elaine Dobbin Centre for Autism.

Provincial Investment in Tech Company to Produce New Skilled Jobs

As part of an ongoing commitment to encourage economic diversity and support the growing technology sector, the Provincial Government today joined with Newfoundland and Labrador-based Verafin, a recognized leader in financial crime detection and prevention software, to announce a major expansion for the company. Seven local members of the Canadian Men's Softball team - five players and two assistant coaches - earned a gold medal on Saturday, July 18, after defeating Venezuela 2-1 in the final at the Pan Am Games in Toronto. Brad Ezekiel of Harbour Main hit a two-run homerun in the sixth inning to clinch the victory.
