The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a food recall warning people not to consume the frozen fruit product Nature’s Touch Organic Berry Cherry Blend due to an identified Hepatitis A contamination. The product is sold exclusively at Costco.

Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development

April has been a tremendous month for Newfoundland and Labrador artists. Atlantic Canada’s best and brightest musical talent were honoured this past weekend at the East Coast Music Awards (ECMAs) in Sydney, while the JUNOs, which were presented on April 3 in Calgary, celebrated the best in national talent. The Swinging Belles won Children’s Album of the Year at the JUNOs, and Hey Rosetta!, Amelia Curran, Fortunate Ones and Everglow won ECMAs in various categories.

Through Budget 2016, a new Labrador Aboriginal Nutritional and Artistic Assistance Program has been created with $50,000 being provided to promote nutritional and artistic endeavours.

Environment and Conservation

Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to rise in this House today to inform my colleagues and the people of our province that a spring training program has been launched for drinking water system operators.

Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development

Mr. Speaker, I rise in this Honourable house to announce that our province will welcome the Princess Royal, the Royal Newfoundland Regiment’s Colonel-in-Chief, to participate in commemorative events for the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme on July 1, 2016.

The Honourable Cathy Bennett, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, today responded to recent comments from credit rating agencies following the release of Budget 2016.

Education and Early Childhood Development

The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will attend the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association, Youth Vibrations event.

Fisheries and Aquaculture

Mr. Speaker, the 3Ps cod fishery located off Newfoundland’s south coast recently became Canada’s first Atlantic cod fishery to achieve Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification.

Seniors, Wellness and Social Development

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to acknowledge award recipients and hall of fame inductees at Sport Newfoundland and Labrador's annual provincial amateur sport Stars and Legends Awards Gala held this past Saturday evening.

Mr. Speaker, Budget 2016 outlined clear targets to address the unprecedented fiscal challenges facing this province. We are taking action to ensure we protect our residents from the potential financial impacts caused by the lack of planning and poor management of the previous administration.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will attend the 53rd annual service for "People of the Sea" on Sunday, April 17, 7:00 p.m. at Gower Street United Church, 99 Queens Road, St. John's. The service celebrates the lives of those whose work is focused on the sea.

Seniors, Wellness and Social Development

Derek Bennett, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development, will address attendees at the annual Stars and Legends Gala, hosted by Sport Newfoundland and Labrador tomorrow (Saturday, April 16) at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland in St. John’s. The event begins at 7:00 p.m.

The Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development and Minister Responsible for the Status of Persons with Disabilities, will deliver closing remarks at the Inclusive Communities Summit, tomorrow (Friday, April 15) at 11:45 a.m. at the Holiday Inn, 180 Portugal Cove Road, St. John's.
