Environment and Climate Change

The Honourable Perry Trimper, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister Responsible for the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board, will be at St. Paul’s Intermediate School in Gander tomorrow (Friday, November 18) at 10:30 a.m. to launch Recycle at School, a program that provides schools in the central Newfoundland waste management region with the resources required to participate in the region’s mandatory recycling and garbage program.

Natural Resources

Mr. Speaker, I recently had the opportunity to showcase our mineral exploration and mining industry at Mineral Resources Review in St. John’s which is Eastern Canada's largest industry conference and trade show, with approximately 700 delegates, exhibitors and visitors.

Transportation and Works

Mr. Speaker, to help develop a multi-year provincial roads plan, the Provincial Government has invited the general public to identify sections of provincial roads and bridges that should be considered for inclusion in the plan via an online feedback form.

Education and Early Childhood Development

As part of the Provincial Scholarship program, more than $200,000 is being awarded to 201 recent high school graduates. The scholarships, which range in value from $1,000 to $2,500, are based on Public Exam results and will help students fund their post-secondary education.

Executive Council

In recognition of their significant contributions which benefit the province, nine people are to be invested into the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador at a ceremony at Government House on December 14, 2016.

Executive Council

The Provincial Government today introduced legislation to allow for the creation of safe access zones around health care facilities and the homes of health professionals and clinic owners providing abortion services in the province. The proposed Access to Abortion Services Act will ensure abortion services are provided in a secure, respectful and private environment.

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, will attend the Government of Canada’s Opioid Conference and Opioid Summit taking place in Ottawa November 18-19.

Executive Council

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, will announce details of the proposed Access to Abortion Services Act today (Thursday, November 17) at 11:30 a.m. in the Media Centre, Ground Floor, East Block, Confederation Building. Minister Parsons will be joined by the Honourable Cathy Bennett, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women.

Fisheries, Forestry and Agrifoods

Mr. Speaker, I rise to highlight the Provincial Government’s participation at the 2016 China Fisheries and Seafood Expo, which took place in Qingdao, China, from November 2 to 4.

Mr. Speaker, I rise in this Honourable House today to recognize the National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims. This year’s theme is “Moments Matter” and moments do matter, Mr. Speaker, because it only takes a moment to lose everything that’s important in someone’s life.

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, will join Dr. Matthew Bowes, Chief Medical Examiner in Nova Scotia, to provide an update on the external review of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Newfoundland and Labrador today at 3:30 p.m. outside the House of Assembly.

Transportation and Works

The Department of Transportation and Works advises mariners that a temporary infill of a portion of the channel is taking place at Placentia to facilitate removal of the former lift bridge. As a result, mariners navigating through the gut will experience an increase in tidal flow. All fill materials placed in the channel will be removed upon the completion of the demolition work.

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, will attend the graduation of the 2016 Correctional Officer Recruits tomorrow (Wednesday, November 16) at 11:30 a.m. The ceremony will take place at the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Centre, 100 Crosbie Road, St. John's.

The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, and the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety, will attend a provincial proclamation signing to mark November 20-27, 2016, as Restorative Justice Week. The signing will take place tomorrow (Wednesday, November 16), at 10:30 a.m. at Easter Seals House, 206 Mount Scio Road, St. John’s.

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Service NL, will speak at a National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims event tomorrow (Wednesday, November 16). The event will be held at 12:00 p.m. at RNC Headquarters, 1 Fort Townshend, St. John’s.

Transportation and Works

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Transportation and Works, will speak at the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Association’s Annual Construction Journal Release Kitchen Party tomorrow (Wednesday, November 16). The event will take place at the Shrine Club, 530 Topsail Road, St. John’s, beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Mr. Speaker, I rise in this Honourable House today to highlight November 14-20 as Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Executive Council

Mr. Speaker, I rise in this Honourable House today to commend the Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs (NLOWE) for their Women’s Economic Forum. The forum, entitled Drivers of Growth – Unleashing the Economic Power of Women, which includes a number of sessions being held across the province, provides an opportunity for women in business to explore the challenges and successes of advancing in business.

Mr. Speaker, last week I was pleased to announce that the response to the recent calls for bids in the province’s offshore was one of the most successful in the world in 2016 and shows significant exploration opportunity for Newfoundland and Labrador.
