The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, will bring greetings at the opening of the Meet the Buyers Reverse Trade Show, tomorrow (Wednesday, November 30). The event is being held at the Holiday Inn, Portugal Cove Road, St. John’s, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Today, the Provincial Government announced appointments to the Board of Directors of Nalcor Energy, based on a list of recommendations provided by the Independent Appointments Commission, effective December 1, 2016.

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, will address the Rotary Club of Northwest St. John’s tomorrow (Tuesday, November 29).

Mr. Speaker, I rise in this Honourable House today to highlight that the Purple Ribbon flag has been raised for the first time at Confederation Building. This is to mark the beginning of the 7th annual Purple Ribbon campaign to increase awareness and responsiveness to violence against women. The flag will remain in place until December 10, coinciding with the International16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence. I am very proud to say, Mr. Speaker, that Newfoundland and Labrador is the first province in Canada to fly the Purple Ribbon flag.

The Honourable Tom Osborne, Speaker of the House of Assembly, announced today that the House of Assembly Management Commission will hold its next meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30.

The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will attend the official opening of Turtle Island Child Care Centre on Sunday, November 27. The opening of the centre, which is located at 97 Elizabeth Avenue, St. John’s, will take place at 11:00 a.m.

The Honourable Perry Trimper, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Service NL, will attend the 2016 provincial launch of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Project Red Ribbon campaign tomorrow (Saturday, November 26). The event will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Coleman’s Garden Market, 137 O’Connell Drive, Corner Brook.

The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will attend the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of School Councils 2016 Biennial Meeting tomorrow (Saturday, November 26) in Gander. The meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. at Hotel Gander.

Braeden Mouland, a Grade 6 student at Phoenix Academy, Carmanville, is the provincial winner of the 2016 National Forest Week Poster contest organized by the Forest Service Branch of the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agrifoods. His winning artwork was selected from 285 entries received from 20 schools.

The Provincial Government and the Government of Canada are making infrastructure investments that will help create jobs, grow the middle class, and build inclusive communities that support vulnerable Canadians.

To mark the start of the 2016 Purple Ribbon campaign, a Purple Ribbon flag will be raised at the Confederation Building, marking the first time that such a flag has been raised in Canada. The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Cathy Bennett, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, joined community stakeholders to raise the flag, which will fly until December 10 to coincide with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence.
