The first grocers to be eligible to sell beer in Ontario grocery stores were announced today, as the province makes the next step towards more convenience and choice for Ontario consumers. In the biggest changes to beverage alcohol retailing in almost 90 years, Ontario is continuing progress toward the sale of beer in up to 450 grocery store locations provincewide.   

Ontario is moving forward with its plan to help lower auto insurance rates by requiring all insurance companies in the province to provide a discount for drivers who buy and install winter tires, starting January 1, 2016.

Ontario is appointing David Marshall as Advisor on auto insurance and pensions, starting Feb. 1, 2016. As an advisor to the Minister of Finance, Marshall will provide recommendations to the government on further ways to reduce auto insurance costs in Ontario, as well as guidance on implementing the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan (ORPP).

August 25, 2015 - Today the ministers responsible for capital markets regulation in British Columbia, Ontario, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Yukon announced the publication for comment of a revised consultation draft of the uniform provincial/territorial Capital Markets Act (CMA), draft initial regulations and related materials. The CMA and the regulations would together constitute the single set of provincial/territorial laws under the Cooperative Capital Markets Regulatory System (Cooperative System). The comment period for the revised consultation draft legislation and draft initial regulations will run until December 23, 2015. Associate Minister of Finance Mitzie Hunter, along with Minister of Energy Bob Chiarelli, and MPP Marie-France Lalonde (Ottawa--Orléans), appeared in Ottawa today to speak about key design features of the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan (ORPP). The ORPP would help close the retirement savings gap for the two out of three Ontarians who do not have a secure workplace pension plan.
