Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs

The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, will be joined by Calvin Peach, MHA for Bellevue, to make a fire and safety related announcement at the fire hall in the community of Terrenceville today (Friday, August 1) at 10:00 am.

The Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

Innovation, Business and Rural Development

The Placentia Rowing Club has received $100,000 from the Provincial Government to assist with the completion of enhancements to the town’s rowing and regatta site. The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development, was joined by the Honourable Felix Collins, Attorney General and MHA for Placentia - St. Mary’s, and made the announcement while touring the refurbished grounds today in Placentia.

The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, will be joined by the Honourable Sandy Collins, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services and MHA for Terra Nova, for the opening of the new Gambo Fire Hall tomorrow (Friday, August 1). The event will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the fire hall.

Service NL

The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Service NL and Minister Responsible for the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission, today announced appointments to the commission’s Board of Directors. Three new members have been appointed and four members have been re-appointed to continue equal representation on behalf of the public, employers, and workers.

Innovation, Business and Rural Development

To strengthen the Stephenville Airport Corporation’s ability to attract new business, the Provincial Government and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) are providing a total of $99,000 to assist the corporation in its ability to implement a three-year strategic business plan.

Education

Whitestone Developments Inc. of Stephenville has been awarded a tender, valued at $109,240, to replace the windows at École Notre-Dame du Cap in Cape St. George on the Port au Port Peninsula.

Innovation, Business and Rural Development

The Long Harbour Development Corporation is constructing a hydromet industrial supply park thanks in part to investments by the provincial and federal governments. The announcement was made today by the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development, and Senator Norman Doyle, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency). This funding will support the construction of the supply park and help make the area more attractive to new and emerging businesses.

The Honourable Tom Marshall, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will speak at the opening ceremony of the Town of Massey Drive Come Home Year today (Thursday, July 31). The event will begin at 7:15 p.m. behind the Town Hall at 85 Massey Drive.

The Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister of Environment and Conservation, joined campers, visitors and parks staff today at Sir Richard Squires Memorial Provincial Park in Cormack to recognize the 60th anniversary of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Provincial Parks.

Health and Community Services

The Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre will receive over $1 million for the purchase of equipment that supports diagnostic imaging, fetal monitoring, patient care and infrastructure upgrades. The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Health and Community Services, was joined today by the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Education and MHA for Grand Bank, and Don Keats, Interim President and CEO of Eastern Health, at the centre for the announcement.

The Provincial Government is joining with the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Phillip’s, to provide nearly $2.8 million in cost-shared funding to upgrade water and sewer servicing in the community. The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, made the announcement today. The minister was joined by the Honourable Dave Brazil, Minister of Service NL and MHA for Conception Bay East - Bell Island, and Moses Tucker, Mayor of the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Phillip’s.

Innovation, Business and Rural Development

The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development, will announce details on funding that will support development of the Long Harbour Industrial Park tomorrow (Thursday, July 31).

Fisheries and Aquaculture

A new cooling system supported by the Provincial Government’s Fisheries Technology and New Opportunities Program will help Codroy Seafoods increase its lobster processing activities, maintain the quality of its seafood, and provide better service to domestic and international markets. The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, announced $100,000 today for the new equipment which will enhance the company’s holding tanks so that they can hold more live lobsters for a longer period of time.

Health and Community Services

Residents of Grand Bank and surrounding communities are benefiting from $565,000 in Provincial Government funding for infrastructure upgrades and health care projects. The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Health and Community Services, was joined today by the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Education and MHA for Grand Bank, and Don Keats, Interim President and CEO of Eastern Health, at Blue Crest Nursing Home for the announcement.

The Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister of Environment and Conservation, will take part in a Parks Proud - 60 Years of Service celebration tomorrow (Thursday, July 31) at 10:00 a.m. The event will take place at Sir Richard Squires Memorial Provincial Park, located on Route 422, 16 kilometres past Cormack.
