Due to major electric upgrading by Newfoundland Power in the Clarenville area, the Clarenville Visitor Information Centre will be closed from 5:00 p.m. today (Friday, August 22) to Sunday, August 24. The centre will reopen Monday, August 25 at 9:00 a.m.

Funding of Nearly $20,000 to Enhance Fire Services in District of Torngat Mountains

The Provincial Government is investing over $20,000 to enhance firefighting capabilities in the communities of Hopedale and Nain. The funding will be used for the purchase of a new all-terrain vehicle (ATV) with tracks to transport firefighting equipment for the community of Hopedale, and four sets of personal protective equipment for Nain.

In commemoration of the centennial of Newfoundland’s engagement in the First World War, renowned British military historian Martin Middlebrook will be at The Rooms August 26-27 to give two public talks on the war. A Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, Mr. Middlebrook is the author of numerous books relating to the First and Second World Wars and the 1983 Falklands conflict. His first book, The First Day on the Somme (1971), is an account of the events of the first day of the Battle of the Somme on July 1, 1916.
